How do I play?
Each morning you get a brief, then a handful of situations at the desk. Type what you say or do, and the guest or staff member responds. At day's end you see the books, then move to the next day. Reach the goal before the run ends to revive the hotel.
How does the subscription work?
Your first full game is free. To keep playing, Latchstring Pro is an auto-renewable subscription billed yearly through Apple ($4.99/year), which unlocks continued play with a generous weekly allowance. The price shown in the app is set by Apple for your region.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription?
On your iPhone, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, select Latchstring, and manage or cancel there. Cancelling stops the next renewal; your access continues until the end of the paid period.
How do I restore a purchase?
Open the subscription screen in the app and tap Restore purchase while signed in with the same Apple ID you bought it with.
Is the writing really made up each time?
Yes. The guests, their troubles, and their replies are generated by AI as you play, so it's fiction and can occasionally be uneven or surprising. It's meant as a warm, PG-13 story, not a depiction of real people.

Overview
Latchstring ("the app", "we", "us") is a narrative hotel game. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. There are no accounts, no ads, and no tracking. We collect as little as possible, and nothing that identifies you.
What stays on your device
Your saved game (the day you're on, your cash, reputation, the characters you've met) stays only on your device. We do not upload, sync, or back up your save to our servers.
What is sent to write the story
Latchstring is an AI-driven game, so the story is generated as you play. When you respond to a situation, the short text you type, together with the game's state (such as the day, your stats, the hotel, and notes the characters remember), is sent to our server (a thin proxy) and on to our AI provider (OpenAI) solely to produce the next bit of dialogue. We send only what's needed to continue the game and nothing that identifies you. This text is not stored after the response is returned.
Anonymous install id
So we can count your free trial and, if you subscribe, your fair-use allowance, the app generates a random anonymous identifier the first time it runs and stores it on your device. It is sent with each request and is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID, or any personal information. It exists only to keep the play allowance fair and to protect the service from abuse.
Third-party AI processing
Story generation is performed by OpenAI's API. The game text we submit is processed under OpenAI's API data policies, which state that API inputs are not used to train their models.
Purchases
Your Latchstring Pro subscription is processed by Apple through StoreKit. We never see or store your payment details. To grant your subscription, Apple's App Store Server API tells our server only whether your subscription is currently active, nothing more.
Analytics & tracking
Latchstring includes no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. We do not build profiles and we do not sell your data. We have none to sell.
Children
Latchstring is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Content
Because the story is generated as you play, it can occasionally be uneven, repetitive, or unexpected. We aim for a warm, PG-13 tone but cannot guarantee every line. If something seems off, let us know.
Purchases
Latchstring offers one full game for free. To keep playing, Latchstring Pro is an auto-renewable subscription billed yearly through Apple ($4.99/year) that unlocks continued play with a generous weekly allowance for fair use. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase, and the subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it anytime in your App Store account settings. The price is shown before purchase and may vary by region.
Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the app or the service behind it, attempt to reverse engineer it, or use it for any unlawful purpose. We may limit or block requests that appear automated or abusive in order to protect the service.
Availability
Latchstring depends on your device, your internet connection, and third-party services such as OpenAI and Apple. We may update, change, or discontinue features over time.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Latchstring and its developer are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of the app. It is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
